Hi guys. As you probably guessed, my journey with music started when I was a little girl. I grew up singing in school and church in small town Oklahoma. “Go Chickasha Fightin’ Chicks!” I have loved music all my life, but the first time I really remember being totally excited about it was in the 5th grade when I played little orphan Annie in a school production. I was fortunate to have a youth choir director at church who had a very strong influence on me, but the thing that truly changed by life was being in a vocal jazz ensemble during my sophomore year at Chickasha High School. In that ensemble, I learned about music, how to harmonize and truly sing together, and I LOVED it. I began to live for school because of the music.
After high school, I went to Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma and studied music education and piano (how thankful I was that my mother “encouraged” me to take lessons). OBU is a Christian based university with a great music department, so it was the perfect fit for me.
Music always moved me, but as I grew up, I began to truly open my life up to God. The greatest thrill in my life was hearing His voice and knowing that He was leading me. I knew from about the time I was sixteen that He wanted me to share his love through music. Although I did not know exactly how this was going to look, I knew it was what I hoped and prayed. Of course, God had a plan, and I am so honored that I he had chosen me to be part of that plan.
God began to reveal His plan for me as a worship leader during my years at OBU. During the summer months after my sophomore year, I toured with the Continental Singers and sang in about 30 states. I fell in love with traveling our great country, visiting all different types and denominations of churches and assisting believers with worship.
The next summer, I worked as a youth intern for a local church and went on 2 mission trips. The experiences of that summer opened my eyes to the rest of the world. As part of the summer, we took the youth group to a camp called Centrifuge. I watched as the worship leader led the students into worship with a guitar, and I felt God say to me, "That is what you are going to do." At that time, I didn't even play guitar (a minor detail for God). That next year at school I began to lead worship for some ministries on campus. God then took me back to Centrifuge where I worked for the next 3 summers. During that time, I learned a great deal about being humble and the importance of glorifying God and not myself. Those years at Centrifuge were some of the best summers of my life!
Since that time (about 15 years), God has allowed me to have my DREAM JOB of leading music to believers all over the country and even in some place outside of the U.S.
